Pragbodhi is near Gaya in the state of Bihar. It is a mountain where Prince Siddhartha stayed while practicing austerities for six years. Pragbodhi means Prior to Enlightenment and is now known as Dhungeswara.
Prince Siddhartha practiced severe asceticism for six years before attaining enlightenment. One of the places where he stayed during this time was a mountain that later came to be known as Pragbodhi or Prior to Enlightenment. It is now known as Dhungeswara. According to Buddhist legends, he was sheltered in the small cave half way up this mountain. Today there is a small temple near the cave looked after by the Tibetan monks.
