Junnar Caves in MaharashtraLocated in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra, Junnar caves is the outstanding destination for the Buddhist pilgrims. Located very close (177 km) to Mumbai, Junnar Caves are positioned in the hill ranges. It is a very prominent site from archaeological point of view. The Tulija Lena, and the Ganesh Lena are very prominent. All of the Junnar caves were founded between 2nd Century BC and 3rd Century AD is the utmost treasure of India. The place is wrapped by lush green vegetation which makes the place more fascinating and thus extremely visited amongst all Buddhist destinations.

The Junnar caves can be classified into three major categories

Description on the Junnar Caves:
Five kilometers to the west, the Tulija Lena group consisting of Chaityas or the prayer halls decorated with a circular dome ceiling in the Chaiya hall with three caves.  The second group of caves, Manmodi Hill Group positioned at 1.5 kilometers south to Junnar is the prime pilgrimage attraction for millions of worldwide visitors. Onward the Manmodi hills there exists a well preserved facade. The Ganesh Lena group, the third group, 4 kilometers south of Junnar encompasses abundant of small cells and Viharas. 'Ganesh Lena', the main vihara of this group has been named after the group with the same name. Belonging to the time period of 2nd century BCE to the 3rd century CE, the Junnar caves is liked for its spectacular construction and architecture and thus attracts the tourists, Buddhists and archaeologists.

How to get there
By Air:
Mumbai, located 177 kilometers away is the nearest airport from Junnar. The Mumbai airports serve all the major international and domestic flights.

By Rail: Major railhead is at Mumbai, well- linked with all the major Indian cities.

By Road: Bus service is very frequent and regular to the Junnar caves. As it lies on the Mumbai-Aurangabad route coaches, buses or even private taxis can easily be hired for Junnar caves.
