Jethian is a small village near Rajgir in the state of Bihar. The tour of Jethian is significant because it here that Lord Buddha meet King Bimbisara. At that it was known as the Lativana or the Palm Grove. Jethian became the seat of influence of Jayasena, the famous saint in 7th century AD. The Chinese pilgrim, Hiuen Tsang spent two years here studying with Jayasena.
Buddha headed for Rajgir to meet King Bimbasara after coming from Sarnath and Bodhgaya. When the king came to know about this, he accompanied by his entourage came to the outskirts of the city to welcome Buddha. There is a large mound with a tank with in the village, which are the remains of the stupa later built over the Supatittha Cetiya. It is the place where the Buddha stayed while at Jethian. There is a huge and remarkable statue of the Buddha Besides the mound. At a little distance away from the mound lies the statues of Padmapani and Buddha found in this region. At a distance of 3 km from Jethian, on the Chandu Hill is a large cave called Rajpind. It is the caves mentioned in the Tripitaka. The Jethian is recommended for people on tour of Buddhist Sites in Bihar.
