| Located bout 15 km from Visakhapatnam, on the hilltop of Mangamaripeta, Thotlakonda Buddhist Complex (17 15 N - 83 23 E) is one of the celebrated Buddhist sites in Andhra Pradesh. Known for its prominent locations for Buddhism and Buddhist studies in Visakhapatnam, Thotlakonda is significantly attracting global traveler’s attraction. The Thotlakonda Buddhist Complex dates back to the ages of 300 - 200 BC, thus today widely visited as a treasure of Buddhist. Most of the monasteries of Andhra Pradesh focus on the light excavations by the State Archeological Department done in 1982 – 92.
Today, the region look more developed as archeological department has taken an initiative to protect them. A large assortment of Stupas, Chaityas, Viharas, a congregation hall and a refectrory belonging to the Himalayanas School has carefully decorated the Thotlakonda Complex. A Buddhist Archeological Museum is also designed in that region. VUDA a ropeway between Bavikonda and Thotlakonda - the two admired Buddhist shrines in the region is a now granted as a global traveler’s fascination.
