|  Ladakh is a significant place for Buddhism in India, attracts billions of Buddhist and casual travelers in every season. Thiksey Gompa of Ladakh is a magnificent treasure of the place. Situated at a distance of approximately 18 km from the town of Leh Thiksey Gompa, it is also recognized as one of the most beautiful monasteries in Ladakh. It came under the Gelukpa order of Buddhism. Lakhang Nyerma, a temple built by Rinchen Zangpo is positioned in the vicinity of Thikse Monastery. Today it stands mostly in ruins.
However, later Spon Paldan Sherab, the nephew of Sherab Zangpo, remanufactured the Thiksey monastery in 1430 AD. The new monastery was majestically placed on a hilltop, to the north of Indus River. Apart from the aforesaid temple, there also lays a large number of other sacred shrines inside the monastery premise. Numerous valuable artifacts and ancient relics are among the rich collection of monastery. The monastery performs Gustor ritual with enthusiasm and zeal which is organized from the 17th to 19th day of the ninth month of the Tibetan calendar. Sacred dances also plays predominant role of this ritual, which takes place on an annual basis.

By Rail: Leh is smoothly connected with other major cities of Kashmir as well as different important destinations of India.
By Road: Though Jammu and Kashmir does not offers a soft route communication, due to heavy snow fall, but Leh provide smooth bus operation to all the important destinations of India from June to September.
