Buddha Statue in Stok Gompa,  LadakhThe Stok Gompa of Ladakh dates back to the 14th century, founded by Lama Lhawang. Millions of travelers find their imagination turned into a reality after coming to this divine serene –the Stok Gompa. Belonging to the yellow-hat sect of Buddhism, the Stok Gompa is the subsidiary of the Spituk Gompa. A vibrant mural of the Guardians of the Four Directions is the utmost fascination of the gompa. The recently repainted Dukhang of the Stok Gompa houses a number of banners and thankas. The images of Vajrapani (Vajra-in-Hand) and Avalokitesvara (Lord of All He Surveys) in his four-armed manifestation has teemed the left wall of the Dukhang.

Just behind the Dukhang there exists a small chapel which comprises of the oldest part of the Gompa. Tsong-kha-pa is the central image inside the temple. The Stok Monastery of Ladakh offers a library for complete understanding of the Kandshur. The 108 volumes of the Buddha's teachings is the treasure of the place. A new temple of Avalokitesvara was included to the monastery, a few years back. The splendid image of Avalokitesvara with his 1,000 arms and 11 heads is the global travelers’ magnetism. On the 9th and 10th day of the Tibetan 1st month, a ritual dance-mask takes place performed nearby the Stok Gompa.


How to Reach the Stok Gompa :

By Air: 15 km to the south of Leh, the Stok Gompa is significantly connected with other major cities of India.

By Rail:  Leh (15 kms from Stok Monastery) is connected with all other states of India by Rail.

By Road: Smooth and an effective bus service are there in Leh to carry the pilgrimages of Stok Gompa.
