Namgyal Monastery in Himachal PradeshRenowned as the private monastery of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Namgyal monastery aims at teaching the Lamas. Thus, the original monastery is used privately by the Dalai Lama since its inception. 'Namgyal Dratsang', is the other name of 'Victorious Monastery’, the prime most attraction of global Buddhist Pilgrims. Namgyal monks practice all types of prayers and rituals, which is the unique characteristics of the monastery. The varied major schools of Tibetan Buddhism gain its importance as a prior visitor’s fascination.



The visitors are not permitted to enter the temple premises, as it is especially for the Dalai Lama and his students. Namgyal monastery was earlier at Lhasa, in Tibet, attracting visitor’s attention from several centuries. A latest monastery was constructed at his residence in Dharamshala, after Dalai Lama left Tibet. The monastery has three to five monks coming in, in exchange from the main monastery in Dharamsala. A distinctive feature of this monastery is its plethora of practices: prayers and rituals of all the foremost schools. The monastery is placed next to the Central Cathedral attracting Buddhist pilgrims in every season.  


How to Reach Namgyal Monastery

By Air:
The nearest airport from Namgyal Monastery is located, 21 km away from Mc Leodganj. Jagson Airlines connects Gaggal to Delhi thrice a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday).

By Rail - Nearest railhead Chakki Bank, around 76 km away from Mc Leodganj. The Trains here connect Delhi and Kolkata.

By Road - Mc Leodganj is linked to Delhi by NH1 and NH21. Buses are also available to reach Dharamshala and to the other prominent places of the state.
