Guru Ghantal Gompa

Guru Ghantal Gompa in Himachal PradeshOne of the most renowned Buddhist monasteries of Himachal Pradesh is the Guru Ghantal Gompa. Also known as Guru Ghantal Monastery, it is the oldest Buddhist monasteries of the region, constructed on the wonderful site of the confluence of two rivers. The idols in the monastery are carved out of wood- the remarkable feature of the Gompa. The Idol of Goddess Kali is its premier attraction. The workmanship of the Gompa is successful enough to capture global visitor’s attention.

The Gompa or the monastery was constructed 800 years before, which overlooks the village of Tupchilling. It is significantly known as the oldest gompa of Lahual in India. The existence of Kali strengthens the belief that before being converted into a Buddhist religious spot, the monastery was a temple. The monastery is linked with the Drukpa made of wood and also extremely visited for the image of 'Boddhisatva Avalokiteshwara'. Guru Ghantal Gompa is positioned on the pinnacle of a hill, thus it makes an attractive scene with the stunning monastery atop the sun-kissed hill. Today, Guru Ghantal Gompa significantly contributes in the field of Himachal Pradesh tour and Tourism.
